Background

India has emerged as one of the most AI ready healthcare markets in the Asia Pacific region, according to a new report by Bain & Company. The report found that 78 per cent of Indian consumers use generative AI to better understand diagnoses and treatment options.

According to Bain & Company, 73 per cent of Indian consumers use generative AI to get ready for healthcare appointments, while 72 per cent turn to the technology for guidance in understanding and accessing healthcare services.

Such numbers place India among the region’s leading markets for AI adoption in healthcare. Younger patients, particularly those from Gen Z, are driving this move toward digital health solutions.

The report noted that 66 per cent of Gen Z participants use online pharmacies and show greater engagement with AI enabled healthcare tools and services compared with other age groups.

Bain & Company attributed the trend to rising consumer expectations for convenience and coordination, which are placing pressure on an already stretched clinical workforce across Asia Pacific healthcare systems. This pressure is pushing providers toward new care models that incorporate AI enabled support.

Patients across India want quicker access to care along with faster responses from providers. According to the report, 88 per cent of respondents now expect healthcare experiences that feel more convenient, while 79 per cent hope doctors will stay reachable through phone calls and text based messaging.

Patients in India also raised concerns about coordination during treatment. Nearly 93 per cent of respondents said they would prefer one central point of contact to manage their entire healthcare journey, pointing to a clear need for joined up digital health services.

India’s healthcare sector is evolving rapidly as more patients adopt digital health solutions and look for better-connected care services.
