Medanta hospital chain operator Global Health Ltd. has recorded its highest-ever revenues and profits during the June quarter, driven by higher patient numbers and stable margins. Although net profits were only marginally higher at ₹159 crore, last year’s June quarter had a one-off profit. The underlying profits without this one-off item have improved.
Revenue from operations increased 26.5% year-on-year to ₹1,304 crore. There was also an increase of 26.3% in EBITDA, which came out to be ₹286.7 crore. The EBITDA margin was consistent at 22% even though there was an increase in revenues.
The number of patients was high in the quarter. The inpatients have increased by 27.7%, whereas the outpatients have increased by 34.5%. Occupied bed days grew 21.1%, resulting in an occupancy rate of about 63%. Excluding the newer Noida hospital, occupancy stood at 66%. The company added 72 beds across its Noida and Lucknow hospitals and appointed more than 70 doctors, including over 50 senior specialists, to support its growing operations.
The Noida hospital moved closer to profitability as its income increased sharply from the previous quarter and operating losses narrowed significantly. Revenue from international patients rose 23%, while the outpatient pharmacy business grew 50.9%, adding to the company’s income streams.
Group CEO and Director Pankaj Sahni said the company achieved its highest-ever quarterly revenue and EBITDA due to strong patient demand and better realisations. He added that the Noida hospital had started making a meaningful contribution. Global Health also plans to open an 80-bed cancer facility in Indore and add nearly 2,950 beds across five greenfield projects over the coming years.
