Let’s delve into the interview details below!
Can you share your professional journey and what inspired you to establish Essentia Healthcare Solutions?
I completed my Nursing Diploma from Lokmanya Hospital, Nursing College, Chinchwad. After that, my professional journey began as a Staff Nurse in the NICU ward at Noble Hospital, Hadapsar, in 2008. I worked there for three years. During this time, I also completed a course in Hospital Management from Pune University.
Afterward, I worked for one year at Ace Hospital as a Medical Coordinator and then started my own Nurses Bureau under the name Professional Nurses Bureau, with the support of S. B. Shinde Sir. With his guidance, we officially started the bureau in August 2015.
During the first 3-4 years, we worked tirelessly, often 15 to 16 hours a day, dedicated to new staff registrations and home visits with staff members. Based on customer feedback, we constantly managed and improved our team.
In this essential healthcare service, customers require assistance 365 days a year, so we put in great effort to ensure staff replacements even during holidays and festive seasons. Many customers seek reliable and trustworthy staff for both patients and their families. Throughout this journey, our entire team has worked with full dedication to provide quality service and build confidence among our patients and clients.
We feel truly happy and proud whenever customers appreciate our staff and services. It has been a rewarding decade-long journey.
How did you and your team build Essentia Healthcare Solutions, and what principles guide your approach to providing home healthcare services?
After completing Hospital Management, I decided to make a career in leadership, which is very needful in the healthcare sector. In 2015, I was alone doing this business, and side by side, my husband supported me in communication with customers, payment collection, and taking feedback from customers after starting the service and making improvements as per the customer’s feedback. When customers appreciated our service or gave blessings after completing the service, especially from elder patients, it really inspired us.
After this, our vision became clear to do 100% of the work together with full dedication. My husband and I decided to give this service to customers with more than 100 well-verified staff. Essentia Healthcare Solutions’ tagline reflects our clear vision: “Caring with Dedication.” In home healthcare services, patients not only require skilled staff but also polite and well-behaved staff to work effectively.
Many times, even our fresher staff have received excellent feedback compared to experienced staff. We both understood that home healthcare service depends mainly on the behavior of the staff, like listening to the patient and their family members and helping with other small activities such as going to the medical store or assisting overall, especially when both are senior citizens.
What steps have Essentia Healthcare Solutions taken to ensure staff reliability, safety, and consistent service, especially during challenging times like the COVID-19 pandemic?
Actually, Patient Home Healthcare Service is a very old business in Pune. Many agencies are working in this field, but we observed that most agencies are not doing police verification of staff or conducting interviews, which is very needful in this scenario.
In 2018-19, we committed to sending 100% staff only after police verification, and for previous or existing staff, verification was done through EHS. During the COVID-19 period, it was not easy to to get staff vaccination as a health care workers done, but Pune Corporation supported us, and at that time, we ensured 100% of our staff were vaccinated as early as possible in Kamala Nehru Hospital.
Our family friend and officer, Mr. Ganesh Annapure PMC Officer, Pune, helped us complete all the legal processes for staff vaccination.
As mentioned earlier, this sector requires 365 days of attendance as it is an emergency service. All staff are required to handle 2-3 patient cases every month. We have to balance all of this, but as mentioned, all our staff are very dedicated to their work. They help us by traveling and going for duty when replacements are needed, and we always try to provide extra payment or travel allowance for their efforts.
What qualities and skills do you believe are essential for leaders in the home healthcare sector?
In home healthcare, leaders are required to maintain proper and transparent communication with both staff and customers. They must be capable of effective decision-making, adaptable to advanced technology, and skilled in identifying and resolving issues through critical thinking and a strategic approach.
Along with this, honesty, transparency, and professional ethical values are essential. Leaders should also focus on coaching and development, actively mentoring and helping staff enhance their professional skills to deliver better service and patient care. We also try to visit every month for long term customers.
How is the home healthcare sector evolving, and what opportunities does it offer for both staff and ethical practitioners?
In the home healthcare sector, the demand for services is increasing day by day. To support senior citizens’ health, skill development and training programs are essential, not only for staff but also for patient relatives to help them handle medical and surgical equipment easily.
This field also provides good income opportunities for individuals with basic educational qualifications, even for those who have or have not completed their 9th or 10th grade. However, the most important qualities in this profession are behavior and attitude. Without professionalism, empathy, and ethical conduct, customers will not accept your service.
That’s why many ethical practitioners and nurses are now starting their own home healthcare services, even in smaller cities, to meet this growing need while maintaining quality and trust.
