Background-
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to dedicate several major healthcare infrastructure projects to the nation on July 17, said Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research Director Dr Vivek Lal.
The projects lined up for inauguration include the Advanced Mother and Child Centre, the Advanced Neurosciences Centre, and a new Critical Care Block, built to strengthen tertiary care services and widen access to specialised treatment.
Dr Lal called the inauguration a major step forward for the institute’s clinical and research work, especially as demand grows for advanced maternal, child, and neurological care.
He said the new facilities will help more patients reach specialised treatment, expand the institute’s service capacity, and reinforce its position as a top referral centre for northern India.
The Advanced Mother and Child Centre will work to improve outcomes for high-risk pregnancies along with care for newborns and paediatric patients.
The Advanced Neurosciences Centre will manage complex neurological cases, so patients can get specialised diagnosis and treatment closer to home. The Critical Care Block will bring added capacity for patients who need close monitoring and urgent, life-saving medical care.
According to Dr Lal, these projects fit into India’s larger plan to build specialised centres of excellence and expand public healthcare infrastructure across the country.
He said the dedication ceremony marks another step forward in bringing high-end public medical services to the region, preparing PGIMER to handle a rising number of patients who need advanced treatment in the coming years.
