Background-
Nita Ambani, the founder and now chairperson of the Reliance Foundation, has announced a new partnership with the American Association of Physicians of Indian Origin (AAPI). She shared the news during her keynote address at AAPI’s 44th Annual Convention & Scientific Assembly, held in Tampa, Florida.
The gathering also marked 250 years of American independence and drew physicians and health sector leaders from across the country.
At the event, Ambani was given the AAPI Humanitarian Award 2026, presented by Convention Chairman Dr. Sagar Galwankar, AAPI President Dr. Amit Chakrabarty, and Convention Convener Dr. Raghu Juvvadi.
Tampa Mayor Jane Castor also handed her the Key to the City, marking her years of humanitarian work. Speaking about the new alliance, Ambani said good medicine should never be limited by borders.
The India-America Health Alliance is built around three main goals. Under the first, physicians from AAPI based in the US will use Jio’s 5G network to hold remote consultations with patients in small towns and villages across India, reaching communities that currently have limited access to specialist care.
Under the second, the alliance will train Indian first responders in advanced medical protocols and modern diagnostic tools, building stronger frontline health teams.
Under the third, the partnership plans to produce up to 500 peer-reviewed research papers over the next decade, supporting joint studies that benefit patients in both countries.
The announcement drew a standing ovation from those present. The Reliance Foundation’s broader humanitarian work already touches healthcare, education, rural development, women’s empowerment, and disaster response, reaching millions of people across India.
