Background
Jolly Healthcare has launched KETOJOL 4:1, a ketogenic diet formulation designed for clinical nutrition and paediatric neurology. The product follows a 4:1 ratio of fat to combined protein and carbohydrates and is manufactured under a pharmaceutical manufacturing licence.
The company is targeting children with Drug-Resistant Epilepsy (DRE), a condition in which seizures continue even after treatment with multiple anti-epileptic medicines. DRE affects around one in three people with epilepsy.
Classical Ketogenic Dietary Therapy (KDT) is used as an additional treatment option for some children with difficult-to-control epilepsy. Clinical studies have reported that the diet can cut seizure frequency by at least 50% in around 50% to 60% of children with refractory epilepsy.
Jolly Healthcare said KETOJOL 4:1 aims to make ketogenic therapy easier to follow in children. The formulation includes Inulin, a prebiotic, along with added micronutrients. The company said these ingredients are intended to improve digestive tolerance and help meet nutritional needs during the therapy.
Jolly Healthcare CEO and Managing Director Avish Jolly said families often face difficulties while following ketogenic diets, including complicated food calculations, taste issues and digestive problems. He said the new formulation combines clinical requirements with easier day-to-day use for children and caregivers.
The company will initially supply KETOJOL 4:1 through tertiary care hospitals, paediatric neurology centres and specialised diet clinics.
Jolly Healthcare has also launched the KETOJOL Keto Support Program. The programme provides digital weighing methods with 0.1-gram accuracy and guidance for caregivers on using the formulation.
KETOJOL 4:1 is intended to complement prescribed treatment and must be used under the supervision of qualified healthcare professionals.
