Background :

Hyderabad-based Grace Cancer Foundation is preparing to list on India’s Social Stock Exchange (SSE), marking a new step in how non-profit organisations can raise funds for social programmes. The nearly 13-year-old foundation was founded by surgical oncologist Dr Chinnababu Sunkavalli.

The proposed listing is aimed at strengthening the foundation’s governance, compliance and transparency while helping it attract impact-focused funding. Dr Sunkavalli said the move is part of a wider institutional transformation rather than only a fundraising exercise. He added that the foundation wants every rupee it receives to deliver measurable social outcomes.

The announcement was made during a knowledge session on Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and the Social Stock Exchange, organised by Equippp Social Impact Technologies Ltd in Hyderabad.

As part of its next growth phase, Grace Cancer Foundation plans to establish a Centre of Excellence for Preventive Oncology. It also plans to deploy fully AI-enabled mobile cancer screening units and expand cancer and non-communicable disease screening programmes across India.

The foundation will further develop digital health platforms for underserved communities and increase research partnerships in preventive oncology.

The Social Stock Exchange provides an SEBI-regulated platform through which eligible non-profit organisations and social enterprises can raise funds from donors and impact investors. Unlike traditional stock markets, the framework focuses on social impact, transparency and accountability.

The foundation’s proposed listing reflects the growing focus on outcome-based social financing in India. Non-profits are starting to look past the usual grant routes, and they’re leaning toward stronger governance and clearer impact measurement systems to win the funding.
