Background:

Galaxy Health Insurance has introduced Galaxy Twin 360, India’s first health insurance plan that combines hospitalisation (IPD) and outpatient (OPD) benefits based on the premium paid. The plan is designed for adults aged 18-45 and aims to encourage young policyholders to keep their health insurance active.

Traditionally, Indian health insurance has focused on hospitalisation, leaving outpatient expenses such as consultations, diagnostics, and medicines to be paid out-of-pocket. Urban Indians reportedly spend between ₹15,000 and ₹20,000 annually on OPD services, even though hospitalisation events are rare among younger populations.

Galaxy Twin 360 ensures that OPD benefits are accessible up to the annual premium paid, whether or not hospitalisation occurs, offering tangible value to policyholders each year.

The plan comes in three options, Core, Max, and Ultra, and can be bought as an individual or family floater policy. Children from 91 days old can be included, and the policy can be renewed even after 45 years of age. OPD benefits cover teleconsultations, doctor visits, tests, medicines, dental and eye care, vaccinations, physiotherapy, mental health support, and annual health check-ups.

For hospitalisation, the plan provides full coverage for any room type, automatic top-up of sum insured, cumulative bonus benefits, and certain modern medical procedures. Pre-existing diseases carry a waiting period of up to 24 months, while other conditions have a 30-day initial waiting period.

Galaxy Health Insurance, promoted by members of the TVS family and insurance veteran V. Jagannathan, commenced operations earlier this year. The company has insured more than 3.47 lakh people and has a network of 15,000 agents across India, expanding its presence in the health insurance market.
