Background

Apollo Hospitals, Chennai, has set up nine more advanced labs at various parts of the city as a part of its Advanced Stroke Network to become the biggest stroke care network in Tamil Nadu. The project is intended to provide faster, coordinated, and good-quality services to ischemic, as well as hemorrhagic stroke patients.

The expanded Apollo Stroke Network focuses on rapid diagnosis and timely treatment through a protocol-driven system that standardises stroke management across all Apollo facilities in Chennai. The network builds on the success of Apollo’s 2023 launch and strengthens its mission to reduce stroke-related deaths and disabilities.

According to experts, stroke cases are rising sharply, particularly among younger people. Studies show that one in four individuals over 25 is at risk of stroke. In such cases, every minute matters, as nearly 1,90,000 brain cells are lost each minute during an attack. Understanding this urgency, the network of Apollo is prepared with a set of progressive imaging and AI-driven diagnostic mechanisms and a multidisciplinary team of experts, in order to provide fast and efficient treatment.

Leading neurologists and neurovascular experts, including Dr. Srinivasan Paramasivam, are part of the network, offering neuroendovascular treatments such as mechanical thrombectomy and microsurgical interventions to save lives and improve outcomes.

India registers approximately 13 million stroke cases per year, of which Chennai alone registers about 10,000 cases per year. The rise of Apollo Hospitals is an indication of its dedication to the provision of better access, faster, and quality in stroke care.

Through this initiative, Apollo will be able to advance early diagnosis, increase mortality rates, and make advanced stroke treatment more affordable to the city residents, which is one of the key moves toward fighting one of the primary health-related issues in India.
