Asan Medical Center in South Korea has introduced a new AI-based knowledge search system that allows hospital staff to quickly access medical and operational information through a secure private network.
The hospital said the system operates on a closed internal network that is completely separated from the external internet. The system was created to keep sensitive medical data secure and improve information protection without relying on outside service providers.
Hospital staff can enter questions into the system and receive responses within seconds, along with supporting references. The search tool is expected to help medical workers during emergencies by providing quick access to treatment protocols, reporting procedures and other important guidelines.
The system is based on vector database technology and retrieval-augmented generation, also known as RAG. The vector database stores large volumes of hospital documents and clinical information in a way that allows the AI system to understand meaning and context instead of relying only on keyword searches.
RAG technology requires the AI to check stored documents before generating answers, helping reduce inaccurate or unsupported responses often linked with AI systems.
