In a time when many people rely on supplements for every health issue, Delhi-based cardiologist Dr Alok Chopra, who has over 40 years of experience, is encouraging everyone to return to natural, home-cooked foods for better health. In a recent social media post, he highlighted four traditional Indian ingredients that, he believes, can do more for our overall well-being than most supplements ever could.
Dr Alok Chopra, known for his holistic approach to heart health, emphasised that whole foods should always come before pills. “Supplements can support your nutrient needs, but they should never replace natural foods,” he noted. Sharing his perspective in a November 1 Instagram post, he called A2 ghee, herbs and spices, fruits, and pulses the “everyday heroes” of the Indian kitchen.
According to him, A2 ghee, clarified butter made from the milk of cows that produce the A2 beta-casein protein, is “pure fuel for the body and brain.” He described it as one of India’s greatest gifts to the world, known for improving energy, digestion, and brain function.
He also praised herbs and spices, calling them “the ancient protectors of health.” Rich in antioxidants, these natural ingredients not only enhance the flavour of food but also help reduce inflammation and tissue damage, as supported by studies from the National Institutes of Health.
Dr Alok Chopra said that fruits provide healthy fats that help repair cells and boost brain function, while pulses are a good vegetarian source of protein that keeps the body strong and energetic.
